City Introduces New Employee Assistance Programs For Mental Health

FOREST PARK, Ga. July 22, 2024 — Today, Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA, and the City of Forest Park proudly announced the launch of two new Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) to help address issues related to mental health. As part of the L.E.A.F. (Leading an Essential, Able and Fulfilled) Life initiative, the programs are tailored to provide wrap-around services and resources that support city employees who are trying to navigate mental health challenges, while still maintaining a positive work-life balance.

According to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, 83 percent of U.S. workers suffer from work-related stress and 54 percent of workers reported that work stress affects their home life. With the launch of the programs, all city employees will receive up to eight complementary counseling sessions, with all associated costs to be covered by the city.

“Over the years, studies have continued to show how stress and trauma can increase the frequency of mental health challenges such as grief, anxiety and in some instances even substance abuse disorders," said Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA. "After conducting a citywide survey of our employees, it became abundantly clear that individuals in our workforce take the issue of mental health very seriously. From our firefighters to police officers, as well as our administrative staff, these EAPs add to the vital progress being made to ensure that employees feel valued and have the tools they need to live a healthy lifestyle."
