City Partnering With American Red Cross To Install Free Smoke Alarms

American Red Cross volunteers

FOREST PARK, Ga. — April 12, 2023 — Today, the City of Forest Park announced that it has been selected to participate in the national Sound the Alarm campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the American Red Cross designed to help install free smoke alarms and encourage families to learn more about the importance of fire safety.

On Saturday, April 22, representatives from the American Red Cross of Georgia, Forest Park Fire and Emergency Services Department and dozens of volunteers are slated to install more than 300 free smoke alarms for city residents living along or near Hendrix Drive. Prior to the installations, a training will be held at First Baptist Church Forest Park for all event volunteers. Topics covered during the training will include available fire safety resources, creating an escape plan and emergency preparedness.

According to the American Red Cross, seven people die every day in house fires most often due to non-working smoke alarms. Since 2014, the American Red Cross has installed more than 2.5 million free smoke alarms nationwide, while also working to reduce the numbers of fire-related injuries and deaths.
