FOREST PARK, Ga. — March 9, 2022 — Earlier this week, the Forest Park City Council unanimously approved Resolution 22-10 in support of the people of Ukraine, while also condemning the invasion by Russia.

According to the latest data released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 2.1 million refugees have fled Ukraine since Feb. 24 of this year. The escalation of conflict has triggered an immediate and steep rise in humanitarian needs, both within the country, as well as in the neighboring countries receiving refugees.

"The city strongly condemns Russia's immoral and violent invasion of another sovereign country," said Forest Park Mayor Angelyne Butler, MPA. "Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Ukranian people, and it is our hope that this war will soon be resolved peacefully."

In the past two years, the city has had the honor of welcoming two separate Ukrainian delegations to the United States. By hosting these delegations, city officials were able to establish a new and growing friendship with the European country.
