Forest Park Awarded $50K Grant From Norfolk Southern

FOREST PARK, Ga. — Jan. 7, 2025 — Through the efforts of its Planning and Community Development Department, the City of Forest Park is proud to announce that is has been awarded $50,000 through Norfolk Southern's Thriving Communities Grant Program.

Unanimously approved by the Forest Park governing body, the grant funding will be used to support the city's multi-million revitalization efforts and improve recreational amenities for both residents and visitors alike. Planned projects include major renovations to six city parks, upgrades to playground equipment, sun covers and new walking trails.

“Creating vibrant, sustainable neighborhoods for our constituents often begins with simply offering top-tier recreation spaces that promote exercise, public safety and a sense of pride among residents," said Forest Park City Manager Ricky L. Clark, Jr. "Each of these projects play a major role as we work to drastically transform the overall look and feel in each of our respective wards. We applaud Norfolk Southern for their ongoing commitment to helping communities like Forest Park build a strong foundation for long-term prosperity."

Since 2023, the Thriving Communities Grant Program has been used to help support vibrant community life, promote economic development and improve equal access to shared public spaces in the 22 states where Norfolk Southern operates. To date, the company has awarded more than $5 million through several open-application grant programs.

"Recreational areas are essential to enhancing downtown experiences and are often used by residents and visitors alike to relax, socialize and stay active," said Planning and Community Development Director Nicole Dozier. "Growth can be extremely exciting. However, it is important that we continue find sustainable ways to attract new residents and businesses, while also preserving the unique character and charm that we have here Forest Park."
