Councilwoman Latresa Akins-Wells - Ward 4
Councilwoman Latresa Akins-Wells, born on January 2, 1983, in Atlanta, Georgia, relocated to the City of Forest Park at the age of four. Educated at Huie Elementary, Forest Park Middle School and Forest Park High School, she has since rooted herself in the community, raising her two children, Jaquia and Jaquez, here in Forest Park, which serves as her anchor.
Elected in 2011, Councilwoman Akins-Wells made history as the youngest elected official at the age of 28 years old. She broke barriers as the first woman and the first African American individual to represent her ward, and now holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Councilmember in the City of Forest Park—truly a trailblazer.
Currently in her fourth consecutive four-year term, Councilwoman Akins-Wells remains committed to serving the community she both grew up in and nurtured her children in. Through initiatives like Wellness with Wells, Fun Fridays and the ongoing redevelopment of Fort Gillem, she continues to be a steadfast voice for her community requires, dedicated to making decisions that enhance its well-being and prosperity.
