Hector Gutierrez
Term: ends December 31, 2023
Councilman Hector Gutierrez was elected to serve in 2019. He is the first person of Hispanic descent to serve on the Forest Park City Council and the second to serve in Clayton County. Hector was born in Uruguay, but has lived most of his life in Georgia and is proud to call Forest Park his home. A veteran of the United States Army, he deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and dedicated 6 years to the armed forces. After his service, Hector dedicated his time to education, graduating from Kennesaw State University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in World History and Spanish. Later obtaining his Master’s degree in Teaching from Georgia State University.
Hector is an avid advocate for the youth. His passion is educating, mentoring, and increasing their civic engagement. He continues to serve as a teacher alongside his duties to city council. Since his tenure as Councilman, he started a youth committee for teens aged 13-17 named “Panthers in Action” and is working to begin a senior committee.
Hector’s priorities as a councilman include increasing the transparency of the Forest Park government, providing more frequent and open communication, and holding its leaders accountable for the betterment of all Forest Park citizens.
Hector has been happily married to his wife Brenda for 11 years; together they have Eleny, their pride and joy, along with 2 dogs. There is not much more that brings Hector joy than helping his community, his beloved family, and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta United!
