Building Permits & Inspections

The City of Forest Park requires permits and inspections to ensure safe building, coordinated development, effective land use, and high-quality site planning. This is designed to ensure that all construction in the city is safe. The safety of the occupants of buildings is the primary reason for having building codes.

For new buildings, additions, alterations and remodeling and/or the installation of electrical, plumbing or heating and air conditioning a permit must be issued.

For new buildings, additions, alterations, interior remodeling permits, and commercial grease hood permits a plan review is required prior issuing the permit

For assistance with plan review submittal and all permitting please contact the Permit Tech.

For the plan review 3 sets (hard copies) of the construction documents must be submitted along with completion of the appropriate documents and associated fees.

The construction documents must be full size ¼” per 1’ scale drawings. They are required to be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the provisions of this code and relevant laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

For all new structures and additions, a site plan showing, to scale, the size and location of new construction and existing structures on the site, distances from lot lines, the established street grades and the proposed finished grades and, as applicable, flood hazard areas, floodways, and design flood elevations; and it shall be drawn in accordance with an accurate boundary line survey. In the case of demolition, the site plan shall show construction to be demolished and the location and size of existing structures and construction that are to remain on the site or plot.

Once plans are approved, a permit is issued and you're required to build the project to those plans. During construction, a building inspector will check major phases of construction for completion. See the issued permit for a list of inspections. Before you begin any major home improvement or other building projects, it is wise to first contact the Department of Planning & Community Development to determine required permits.
